Lautoka Public Transport: Bus Terminal, Fares, Routes and Taxis

Lautoka's main bus terminal is in the city centre on Tukani Street, beside Lautoka Market. It is the practical starting point for local buses, northbound services to Ba and Tavua, and southbound coaches to Nadi, Nadi International Airport, Sigatoka and Suva.
The most important detail for a first trip is payment: public buses do not accept cash fares. Use a loaded eTransport card or a funded eTransport QR wallet. Taxis are different and Fijian dollars are useful for them. If you are travelling with flight luggage, a direct express coach or metered taxi is usually easier than a local bus.

Where is Lautoka Bus Terminal?
The terminal occupies the central transport block on Tukani Street. It is beside Lautoka Market, with shops, food and taxi stands close by. This makes the terminal easy to use as a landmark even if your map labels it Lautoka Bus Station, Lautoka Bus Stand or Lautoka Bus Terminal.
The terminal reopened on 26 January 2026 after a FJ$2.8 million upgrade. Buses and adjacent stops returned to their regular Tukani Street location, so older posts showing temporary bays are no longer useful. The works added new concrete surfaces, resealed nearby loading areas and installed 16 CCTV cameras.
For navigation, open the Lautoka Bus Station map. Do not use the wider coordinates for Lautoka city centre as the terminal pin; the terminal is near 17.6035° S, 177.4543° E.
How to board without guessing
- Choose local or express. Local buses serve suburbs and road stops. Express coaches are the clearer choice for Nadi Airport, Sigatoka or Suva.
- Ask for the bay. Tell the dispatcher, conductor or driver your full destination. Say "Nadi Airport", not just "Nadi", if you need the terminal.
- Confirm your destination before paying. The driver selects the correct fare stage. Tap your loaded physical eTransport card, or scan the validator's QR code, check the fare, confirm payment in the app and present the receipt QR to the validator.
- Check the ticket or display. Make sure the destination and deduction match what you requested.
- Tell the driver about an unfamiliar stop. On a local service, name the beach, hotel, junction or village before the bus moves so you know where to get off.
How to pay for Lautoka buses with eTransport
Fiji's public bus fares have been cashless since 2017. Pay with a loaded physical eTransport card or a funded eTransport wallet using the app's QR payment feature. Cash and ordinary bank cards are not accepted as bus fare. Confirm your destination and fare before paying.
Visitor setup that works
- A new registered eCard is available from Vodafone and Valuefone outlets; a passport is accepted as identification for first registration.
- Vodafone also created disposable e-ticket cards for visitors and one-off travel. Availability and loaded denominations can vary by outlet, so obtain one before relying on a bus connection.
- The eTransport app supports QR bus payments on Android and iPhone without NFC. Its wallet can be topped up using M-PAiSA or MyCash. Register and fund the wallet before travel, and complete the app's QR payment steps at the bus validator. Some physical-card functions require an Android phone with NFC.
Keep the bus card separate from hotel key cards and bank cards when tapping. The balance is stored on the card, which allows fare deduction even if mobile service is weak. How much do Lautoka buses cost?
Bus fares on Viti Levu are calculated by distance stages. A short ride is Stage 1; longer rides cross more stages. This is why a single "Lautoka bus fare" is not meaningful without the destination and service. The first four regulated adult base stages published for Viti Levu are shown below.

A 10 percent government subsidy remains in place, so the actual card deduction can be lower than the regulated base amount. For example, the published subsidised Stage 1 amount is FJ$0.92. Card type and current eligibility matter, so use the validator's ticket as the final charge rather than assigning a route to a stage yourself.
Why 2026 fare figures online conflict
An interim 22.5 percent operator adjustment raised the Stage 1 calculation from FJ$1.02 to FJ$1.25 from 26 May 2026, but the government fully absorbed that increase and passengers were not meant to pay extra. The interim adjustment ended on 31 August 2026, and the base fare schedule resumed on Viti Levu on 1 September 2026. A page that simply quotes FJ$1.25 as the passenger fare is missing the subsidy.
Which transport should you use from Lautoka?
Lautoka is compact enough to walk between the terminal, market and much of the central shopping area. Outside the centre, the right choice depends less on headline price and more on whether the bus reaches the actual gate, beach access or airport stop you need.

Pacific Transport's published southbound timetable lists the departures below. Every service shown calls at Nadi International Airport before Nadi town. The wide gap in scheduled travel time is real in the operator's table, so choose by your required arrival time rather than assuming every coach takes 30 minutes.

Taxis, minibuses and carriers in Lautoka
Taxis
A taxi stand is available around the market and terminal area. For an ordinary street or city ride, ask the driver to use the calibrated meter and check that it is running. For a private long-distance transfer or a wait and return arrangement, a fixed quote can be practical, but agree the total and what it includes before leaving.
FCCC has extended the temporary taxi distance-rate adjustment until 31 March 2027, subject to further review. For general taxis in Lautoka, the distance component is FJ$0.14 per 100 m; flagfall and waiting charges are additional. The previously announced reversion on 1 October 2026 did not take effect. For a journey to Nadi Airport, use the calibrated meter or confirm a separate private-transfer quote before travel.
Carry Fijian dollars, photograph or note the vehicle registration for a long ride, and request a receipt if you need one. If the driver will not use a meter for a normal metered journey, choose another taxi. Fiji's consumer guidance is clear that charging above the displayed meter fare is not permitted.
Minibuses and carriers
Shared minibuses and carriers can serve intercity or village routes, but Lautoka does not have one complete, authoritative online timetable for them. Use a marked, licensed vehicle, confirm the final destination and fare before boarding, and ask whether the vehicle waits to fill. They can be faster for a suitable route, but they are a poor choice when a flight, ferry check-in or guaranteed luggage space matters.
Luggage, accessibility and a comfortable ride
- Flight luggage: Pacific's express coaches publish underfloor and overhead storage. Tell staff what is inside before a bag goes below, and keep passports, medicine and electronics with you.
- Local buses: Space, steps and seating vary by vehicle. A compact bag is much easier than a large suitcase during commuter periods.
- Reduced mobility: Step-free access is not consistently published across the local fleet. A prearranged suitable taxi or transfer is the safer planning choice if boarding steps or storage are a concern.
- Road stops: Wait where the driver has room to stop safely. Do not stand in a traffic lane or assume a bus can stop on a blind bend.
- After dark or in heavy rain: Use the terminal or an established taxi stand instead of waiting at an unfamiliar roadside point.

For a low-cost day in Lautoka
Arrive at the terminal, walk through the market and central shopping area, then use one local bus or taxi for the attraction farthest from the centre. For a ferry or cruise connection
Treat the bus terminal and wharf as separate locations. Use the ship shuttle, taxi or arranged transfer for the final segment, and keep the operator's check-in time in your plan.
