Saweni Beach is a local beach southwest of Lautoka, on the Nadi side of the city. Reach it from Queens Road via Saweni Beach Road. Where is Saweni Beach?

Saweni is on the coast between Lautoka and Nadi Airport. From Lautoka, travel toward Nadi along Queens Road, then take Saweni Beach Road toward the shore. From Nadi, approach from the opposite direction, traveling toward Lautoka. The nearby Fiji Orchid hotel also gives Saweni Beach Road as its official address.

Use Saweni Beach on the map for the beach destination. A stop on Queens Road and an address on Saweni Beach Road are different drop-off points. Tell your driver you want the shoreline access.

How to get to Saweni Beach

From Lautoka by taxi or car

A taxi is the simplest option for a short visit, children or picnic bags. Give the driver the full beach name and map destination before setting off. Agree whether the driver will return at a set time or wait, and keep their phone number. For a rental car, follow beach-access and parking signs, keep driveways clear and leave space for other vehicles.

From Lautoka or Nadi by bus

At Lautoka Bus Station, ask for a local service toward Nadi that can set you down at the Saweni Beach Road turnoff. At Nadi Bus Station, ask for the Lautoka-bound equivalent. Before boarding, establish the exact drop-off and how you will cover the road from there to the shore. With luggage, young children or a short cruise call, a taxi avoids that extra section.

Public buses accept a loaded eTransport card or QR payment through a funded eTransport app wallet. Prepare your payment method before boarding, tell the driver your destination and keep your ticket or receipt. From Nadi Airport or Denarau

From the airport, take a direct ride toward Lautoka, turning off Queens Road onto Saweni Beach Road. Fiji Airports lists yellow airport taxis outside Arrivals and requires meters for taxi journeys. From Denarau, arrange road transport through Nadi toward Lautoka, then follow Saweni Beach Road to the shore.

Transport costs and beach access

For an ordinary Viti Levu taxi, excluding airport taxis, the Fiji Times report on the July 2026 fare decision lists a FJ$2 daytime flag fall, FJ$3 at night and FJ$0.14 per 100 meters. Waiting is charged separately. FBC reported on 29 September 2026 that the temporary distance-rate adjustment was extended until 31 March 2027.

The total taxi cost depends on your starting point, route and waiting time. Budget for both directions. For a private driver, get one price covering the agreed stops, waiting and return. On a bus, the fare applies to your boarding and drop-off points; keep enough eTransport balance for the ride back.

Follow the designated beach access and any posted parking conditions. A neighboring hotel's pool, restaurant or parking area has its own access rules. Ask what a separately quoted parking or facility charge covers before paying, and include food and drinks in your day-trip budget.

When to visit, tides and swimming

For a short visit, set aside about 45–90 minutes at the shore. Morning is a useful choice before the day's other stops; late afternoon suits a picnic and photos. For sunset, aim to arrive about an hour before the sunset time for your travel date. Set your pickup time around that visit rather than relying on a fixed sunset hour throughout the year.

Treat swimming here as an open-water activity. Swim in daylight with a companion, stay close to shore and keep children within arm's reach. Stay out during thunderstorms, rough conditions or visibly dirty water, and follow any local closure or warning signs. Plan the outing around time by the shore; for a reef snorkeling trip, choose an organized excursion with a named site and guide.

What to bring and how to plan for facilities

Make a toilet stop before leaving town and carry your own drinking water and food. For a restaurant meal or use of a hotel's facilities, make a separate arrangement with that business.

  • Bring drinking water, a hat and sunscreen.
  • Pack snacks or a picnic, plus a bag to take the rubbish away.
  • Wear footwear on the shore and watch for sharp debris.
  • If you plan to swim, pack swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes.
  • Keep your phone charged, save the beach map and carry cash for your taxi and food.

Beach cleanliness needs attention. A March 2026 report of a community clean-up quoted organizers collecting around 250 bags of rubbish from the foreshore. Choose a clear spot for your picnic and keep shoes on when walking through debris.

The beach visit includes walking on sand. If you need step-free access or cannot manage a road walk, arrange a vehicle to the beach access point and discuss the drop-off surface with the driver when booking.

Returning to a cruise ship, flight or island boat

For a cruise call, work backward from the ship's all-aboard time. Give that deadline to your driver and leave room for traffic and port access. Put the beach earlier in the day if sailing is scheduled before sunset.

For a flight, allow for the drive to Nadi Airport and your airline's check-in deadline. Arrange luggage storage before the outing; the beach is an awkward place to manage suitcases. In September 2026, the University of Fiji and Ministry of Forestry took part in a mangrove-planting initiative at Saweni Beach. Keep to established access areas, leave seedlings and mangrove roots undisturbed, and take all picnic waste away.
