Direct flights to Fiji: where to start

Nadi and Suva are different airports. NAN is Nadi; SUV is Nausori, serving Suva. If your accommodation is in Suva or your final destination is another island, compare the complete itinerary to that destination rather than automatically adding a separate flight after landing in Nadi.

These are planning estimates for nonstop outbound flights, not a timetable. The duration shown on your chosen flight takes priority, and the return journey can take longer. Departure and arrival times are local to each airport, so subtracting the clock times does not reliably give the flight duration.

Other Australian and New Zealand departure airports

• Adelaide (ADL) and Cairns (CNS): Fiji Airways offers nonstop Nadi services. They can save a domestic connection when the operating days fit your holiday.
• Gold Coast (OOL): Fiji Airways launched its Nadi service in June 2026. If you live in south-east Queensland or northern New South Wales, compare the airport journey and parking costs with Brisbane.
• Christchurch (CHC): look for Fiji Airways nonstop flights before accepting an itinerary through Auckland. An Air New Zealand search result may include a domestic connection.
• Wellington (WLG): compare Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand for your dates. Check the nonstop filter and actual operating days rather than assuming every displayed option is direct.
• Other cities: search from your home airport first to see through-ticket options, then compare the cost and extra travel involved in reaching a nonstop gateway yourself.

A flight sold by one airline may be flown by another. Look for “operated by” in the booking details: a Qantas flight number on a Fiji Airways aircraft is a codeshare, not an extra Qantas-operated departure. Qantas and Fiji Airways route network.

Which airline and fare should you choose?

Two economy tickets on the same route can have very different inclusions. Start with your bag requirements, then compare the total. The table covers standard adult economy products relevant to these routes; loyalty benefits, special tickets and third-party packages can differ.

Jetstar carry-on changes for February 2027

For Jetstar Airways (JQ) Starter flights departing before 2 February 2027, the standard allowance is two carry-on items with a combined weight of 7 kg. For departures on or after that date, the current Starter guide specifies one underseat bag measuring no more than 40 × 30 × 20 cm. If you booked before 5 August 2026, use the allowance recorded in Manage booking. A fare that works with a cabin suitcase this year may need an extra baggage purchase for a later trip.

Connecting flights, surfboards and family luggage

Treat a Fiji domestic flight or resort aircraft as a separate baggage check. A suitcase permitted on the international flight may exceed the smaller aircraft’s limit. Before buying the international fare, match your luggage to the strictest sector you plan to fly.

For surfboards, dive equipment, pushchairs or infant items, check item dimensions and handling rules as well as kilograms. Do not assume a standard checked-bag allowance automatically covers every oversized item, or that an infant has the same allowance as an adult.

How much will your Fiji flight really cost?

Compare the price for the same passengers, dates, currency and baggage. Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars and Fiji dollars are not interchangeable. Also check whether the displayed figure is one-way, return, per person or for the whole booking.

A simple worked example

In this example, Option B costs AUD 30 less after extras. If neither fare needs optional extras, remove them from both calculations. If a flight forces an overnight stop, add the actual room quote and transfers; for a couple sharing one room, count that room once in the party total.

How to find cheaper flights without booking myths

There is no reliable universal rule that buying on a Tuesday or waiting until 21 to 35 days before departure produces the cheapest Fiji ticket. Use the flights available for your actual dates and the total you are prepared to pay.

1. Search the full travelling party. Include all adults and children from the start. A fare displayed for one passenger may not have enough seats for everyone at that price.
2. Move both ends of the trip. Compare a few days around your departure and return, then check whether a different trip length improves the combined flight and hotel cost. A cheap departure paired with an expensive return can erase the saving.
3. Compare nonstop flights first. This gives you a useful baseline. Add connecting options if the saving still looks worthwhile after the extra travel time, transfers and baggage arrangements.
4. Compare return bookings and two one-way bookings. Either can win on price. With separate bookings, read each airline’s change rules and understand what happens if one flight changes.

6. Price the final basket before choosing. Add bags, the seats you want and any payment fees. Compare the airline’s own checkout with an agent’s total, including who will handle changes or refunds.

If your dates are fixed by school holidays, a wedding or a particular resort booking, start comparing when those dates are known. Waiting for a supposed last-minute window creates a risk without guaranteeing a lower fare. For flexible holidays, let the flight calendar and accommodation availability work together.

A package can also be worth checking, but compare the same room, number of nights, meal plan, luggage and cancellation terms. “Flights included” does not tell you whether a resort transfer or an extra mainland night is included.

Choose an arrival time that fits your Fiji holiday

Choose your arrival around the next leg of the holiday. For Nadi or a mainland hotel, a later flight may work well. For an island resort, the boat or resort flight can determine which international arrival is practical.

If you are travelling to the Mamanucas or Yasawas

Work backwards from the required boat check-in or resort transfer. Allow for leaving the aircraft, immigration, baggage collection, biosecurity, the road journey to the departure point and the operator’s check-in deadline. Scheduled landing time is not the time you can be at the marina.

If you need a domestic flight or a separate connecting ticket

Search a single through itinerary before building separate tickets yourself. It can simplify disruption handling, but baggage, terminal changes and connection arrangements still need to be checked on that booking. A separately bought domestic ticket is a separate contract, so do not assume the next airline will rebook you without charge if the first flight is late.

For the journey home

Avoid making an inflexible international departure depend on the last possible boat off an island. Spending the final night on the mainland is a practical option when the connection leaves little room for weather or delays. Four checks before you pay

• Check names and documents: passenger names should match the passport being used. Entry and transit requirements depend on that passport and your itinerary, not simply on whether you depart from Australia or New Zealand. Start with the Fiji entry-requirements guide.

• Read the fare conditions: know whether a change incurs a fee and a fare difference, and whether cancellation gives a refund, credit or neither under the fare rules.
