Fiji Useful Links: Entry, Weather and Travel Resources

Start with Fiji Immigration for entry requirements, FRCS and BAF for arrival declarations, Fiji Met for weather, and your transfer operator for island connections. These Fiji useful links take you to the relevant pages and explain when to use each one. Local radio, museum and rugby resources follow below.

Use our Fiji trip planning guide to choose your regions, trip length and itinerary, then use this directory for the official information behind your bookings and packing decisions.

The six resources below cover the decisions most likely to affect your arrival and onward journey.

Agency guidance and operator timetables for entry, packing, weather and resort transfers in Fiji
Your task Resource When to use it
Work out your entry requirements Fiji Immigration: Entering Fiji Before buying tickets, use the nationality and travel-purpose guidance to find the relevant visa or permit route.
Prepare your arrival declaration FRCS: Arriving in Fiji Read the Passenger Arrival Card guidance, duty-free allowances, currency declarations and restricted-item information.
Pack food and outdoor equipment Biosecurity Authority of Fiji: Traveling to Fiji Use the categories for food, plants, animal products and camping or sporting equipment before packing your bag.
Plan outdoor days Fiji Meteorological Service public forecasts Look at the forecast for your location and travel dates as departure approaches and while you are in Fiji.
Review weather for a boat trip Fiji Meteorological Service marine bulletin Read the issue time, named waters, wind warnings, sea state and swell forecast for the area of your crossing.
Match a resort transfer to your flight South Sea Cruises resort and coach timetables For a resort served by this operator, match the island stop and sailing with the separate mainland coach or road connection.

Entry, customs and packing: three different tasks

Start with entry eligibility. Fiji Immigration's Entering Fiji page links to visa-exempt nationalities and explains how travel purpose affects the visa or permit you need. Read it before buying flights, particularly if you are transiting or combining a holiday with work. For an ordinary tourist visit with a US, Australian or New Zealand passport, our Fiji entry guide for US, Australian and New Zealand passport holders brings the relevant document checks together.

Next, use FRCS for the arrival card and customs rules. This is the relevant source for passenger allowances, purchases, currency and restricted goods. Keep receipts for items that may need to be assessed at the border.

Use BAF while packing food and outdoor equipment. Its guidance covers food, plant material, animal products and camping or sporting gear, including used hiking boots. All food must be declared, and declaration does not automatically mean an item can enter Fiji: a biosecurity officer assesses it. Keep anything you need to declare easy to reach in your luggage.

Weather and island connections

When choosing travel dates, our Fiji weather by month and season guide explains typical rainfall and seasonal patterns. As the trip approaches, switch to current Fiji Met forecasts: climate averages cannot tell you what the weather will be on a particular day.

Use a location forecast to plan a day on land and the marine bulletin for a sea crossing. Sunshine at your hotel does not describe the wind or swell along a boat route. The bulletin separates Fiji waters into forecast areas, so read the area relevant to your trip and the time the forecast was issued.

For island accommodation, start with the exact resort and its nominated transfer operator. South Sea Cruises publishes separate resort-transfer and coach schedules. Allow time for immigration, baggage collection, the road journey and boat check-in when joining a sailing after an international flight. Use our Nadi Airport transfer guide to plan the road leg to your hotel or Port Denarau.

Our Nadi to Mamanuca ferry and transfer guide explains which operators serve different resorts and how the airport-to-marina connection works. If your route includes a domestic flight, compare the baggage allowance on that booking with your international ticket before packing. For cancellations or changed departures, follow the operator's notice: the weather bulletin describes conditions, while the operator tells you what is happening to your service.

Which pages should I check the week before flying?

Confirm entry eligibility and arrange any required visa or permit before booking. Once those are settled, use this final-week sequence to check packing, weather and connections.

  1. Before packing: read BAF's guidance for food, plant or animal products and outdoor gear, then check FRCS for customs allowances and declarations. If an item needs permission, resolve that before travel.
  2. 72 to 48 hours before flying: check Fiji Met's public forecast for your destination and current warnings. Read the issue time and check again as departure approaches.
  3. The day before a boat transfer: confirm the operator's timetable, pickup instructions and check-in time, then read the marine bulletin for the waters you will cross. Recheck service notices before leaving for the marina.
  4. Before leaving for the airport: recheck Fiji Immigration and FRCS for relevant updates. Keep your passport, return or onward booking, accommodation address and any required supporting documents accessible.

More useful Fiji resources

Once the arrival and transport details are settled, these media, culture and sport pages can help you explore Fiji further.

Fijivillage live radio

The Fijivillage radio and podcast page links to FM96, Legend FM, Navtarang, Viti FM and Radio Sargam. It is a useful starting point for local music, conversation and news before your trip or after you return. Choose a station's live-radio link to open its player.

Fiji Museum in Suva

The Fiji Museum visitor information includes opening hours, admission, location and links to its exhibitions. The museum is in Thurston Gardens in Suva, so this is a useful stop when planning a day in the capital. For community visits elsewhere, our Fijian culture and etiquette guide covers dress, photography, hosts and sevusevu customs.

Fiji Rugby Union

The Fiji Rugby Union fixtures page lists matches published by FRU. It is not a complete calendar of local rugby and may not help you find a game near your accommodation during your holiday. Check the competition, year, date and venue together: a fixture involving a Fiji team may be played overseas. For a local match, ask your accommodation or a nearby club and confirm the details with the organizer.

What to save offline before traveling

  • Your flight and transfer confirmations, with the exact island or resort stop.
  • The accommodation address, pickup instructions and operator contact details.
  • The baggage allowance for each flight and any separate boat transfer.
  • Your booking's amendment terms and an alternative overnight plan if a flight delay means you miss the boat.
  • A screenshot or PDF of official entry, customs or biosecurity guidance relevant to unusual items you are carrying, especially food, sporting equipment or hiking gear.
